Welcome to fall! The most wonderful time of the year!
Today I’m sharing some of my top picks for dog mom style… think warm and comfy and also practical.

But, first, some caveats:
First, “style” isn’t a word people use to describe me. Ever. I have about three “nice” outfits and two jumpsuits (those are still fashionable, right?) that are my conference/tradeshow/meeting outfits. So, if you see me more than three or four times a year at events, you’ve seen the entirety of my “out in public” wardrobe. (And, to be totally transparent, half of those outfits my sister picked out for me and the other half are from StitchFix.) The rest of my clothes are T-shirts from 5k’s or from animal welfare fundraisers + jeans.
Second, I live in Indiana. Fall in Indiana is unpredictable. These picks can all be layered up or down because it’ll be 50 degrees when Coop goes for his morning walk, 85 degrees in the late afternoon, and then the next day is 48 and raining from sunup to sundown. These choices are to account for that flux, but obviously you need to find what works for you and your climate. At the least, I hope these ideas inspire your own search!
Third, I am NOT a shopper. My closet is maybe only a third full. I pick out pieces when what I have is worn out or doesn’t fit me anymore. I believe in less stuff and more experiences, so I chose items based on getting outside with your dog and enjoying the weather.

Dog mom hoodie: A soft hooded sweatshirt is a no-brainer for fall. In this early part of the season, a hoodie with a pair of jeans or running tights is all I need to take Coop for hikes. There are HUNDREDS of these on Etsy, but I really loved this dark grey and the script font.

Multi-breed leggings: OK, first, a confession: I’m behind on the leggings thing. I never really understood why they were preferred over just plain old baggy sweatpants. I still prefer super warm sweats, but I finally understand that leggings are actually pretty comfy for wearing around the house and for snuggles. Plus, they’re the perfect fall colors and represent tons of breeds so I couldn’t resist! 🙂

Light mustard wool coat: If I were a different person with a different budget, this. coat. y’all. It’s gorgeous. I can see myself walking my dog on a grey day down a cold, bustling city street, feeling warm and cozy and stylish. Alas, that’s not me, but if it were #thiscoat.
Fanny pack: Hear me out. I need to be hands-free when I walk Cooper, and while I’m not sure fanny packs are stylish… well, I never claimed to be stylish… they just make so much more sense than a backpack because you can access your pickup bags, treats, clicker, whatever, you can access in an instant. No fiddling with setting down the bag to dig out what you need. The one on the left is a hemp style, and the one on the right is a faux leather.

Wool socks: I find that when my feet are cold, I end up cutting our walks short. That’s no fun for either of us, but I just really hate having frozen toes! Wool socks are a must for this transition season. I like these ones because they’re a smidge thinner so can be worn comfortably under whatever fall footwear you prefer (I have a couple suggestions below) but aren’t SO thick and SO warm that they’re better suited for winter (like these ones).
A few quick picks from Amazon…
There are a few things I just couldn’t find on Etsy. Here are my top fall fashion picks for dog mamas from Amazon:
- Duck-style boots, Hunter Boots, or similar: Wet feet are THE WORST. Fall is wet, and even worse, fall is COLD wet. Slick leaves are slippery. You need solid boots that are not quite winter boots but will still keep your feet warm and dry. These are my two (hint, hint, John!) choices from what I found on Amazon.
- Flannel-lined denim: Either these or these would make the perfect hiking pair. Honestly, this + that grey hoodie above + those duck-style boots? Perfect. fall. outfit. You could hike or walk your dog in total warm, cozy comfort.
OK, now for our pets! Two fall pieces for your dog:

Custom-sized Winter Pet Coat: I’d say this is “winter” depending on were you live OR based on your dog’s fur because for our chilly late-fall weather and Coop’s short hair… this coat is PERFECT for fall! And super adorable!

A great leash: Made from upcycled lobster fishing rope and available in a ton of color options, you can’t go wrong with this one. Hooray for upcycling!
What are your fall apparel or accessories must-haves? Anything on your wish list for this season? I’d love to know what you’re shopping for or what you wear out year after year!
Thanks for sharing your fall dog outfit ideas, I like the last picture of the dog wearing the Winter Pet coat, I think both of my dogs would love it, it would look good on them.
