It’s been five years and that song still gets stuck in my head literally every Friday.
It’s funny, actually. I posed this Q on Twitter last week: Do you think dogs get songs stuck in their head?
I don’t know, but I do know that when I love a song, I play it so many times. They’re always around. So, do they have Uptown Funk running through their heads? Are they tired of Happy playing on a loop, too, but you just can’t stop clapping along… because you’re… happy?
These are the types of things I think about… Welcome to my brain!
Anyway, a few BIG things going on around here:
- I’ve been up to my eyeballs in researching grain free… benefits, drawbacks, etc… for our Wellness food trial. The next installment comes on Monday, and I’ve learned some interesting things that I can’t wait to share. Just need to put my thoughts together. But, I’ve found some fascinating stuff from vet school research on things like grain free foods and cancer. Stay tuned for Monday. That’s my weekend project!
- The pool is open! The pool is open! You guys might remember that when we were house hunting, a pool was a “must have” because we really wanted the dogs to be able to swim, and there aren’t any community places for them to do so. Our realtor might have thought we were a bit crazy, but we ultimately found a house with a great yard and a not-quite-full-size pool. Perfect! Well, yesterday, the pool guy came and opened the pool. There’s a little tear in the lining he has to come back and fix, but it’s basically ready. Although, it’s freezing, so we can’t actually swim yet. But, that gives me some time to prepare. I’m ordering them life jackets. I don’t think Cooper needs it, but Emmett’s lost so much muscle mass as he’s gotten older that I’d rather be safe with him. His oncologist actually recommended he start swimming before he even knew we bought this house just so the dogs could swim! Anyway, if anyone has a life jacket brand or style they love, please share! Also, a weekend project to research and purchase something! (Taken from inside due to aforementioned freezing… as evidence by my phone reflection. Also, ignore the dying plants. I’m a well-known, most-wanted plant murdered. I’m working on it. Kind of?)
- Now for THE BIGGEST NEWS {{drumroll}} Guess where I’m going next week! Guess!!! This is so exciting and so big I have to announce it in all caps to signify my joy: I’M GOING TO BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SANCTUARY IN KANAB, UTAH!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I’m bouncing out of my chair. So, as you guys have probably noticed, I’ve posted a handful of posts about Best Friends initiatives and events, along with that nifty little Best Friends badge in my side bar. Well, LUCKY ME, as part of working with them, they’re bringing me and a handful of other bloggers and freelancers out to the sanctuary next week. I’m seriously bursting out of my skin with excitement. Also, there’s a chance to chat with the co-founders (on. a. HIKE. omg. am I dreaming?) and I’d love to gather up some questions that you guys have that I can ask and then share with you afterwards. What would you like to know about Best Friends? About their operations? Or the animals there? Anything is game, I think, so post in the comments, and I’ll bring notes for our discussion.
Whew! So, there you go! I don’t leave until the middle of next week, which gives plenty of time to write my post about Emmett’s food trial, research and buy life jackets, and PACK for Best Friends! Holy moly, I’m so excited!
Leave your Qs (about grain free or Best Friends) in the comments, and if you have any of those life jacket suggestions, please do share!
Have a wonderful, fun, relaxing weekend!
We have been doing grain free for a few years due to some bladder stones in one of the Puggles…I am excited to hear what you think 🙂
As you may have seen Linc has a very special accessory these days – it looks a little like a life preserver….but not quite! How fun for you boys to swim!!
Yes! The poor little angel. I hope he’s healing well! I do really like those inflatable rings as an alternative to the cone. Seems, I don’t know, comfier?
Great post!! Can’t wait to hear all the news and see the pics. Hope you have a ton of fun!!
Yippee! Thanks, Kathy!
BEST FRIENDS?? YOU’RE GOING TO BEST FRIENDS?? MINIMUM TWO BLOG POSTS. FOR REALS.
We’re doing an Avoderm test thanks to your brood. We’ve gone from, “Eh, kibble again?” to “MOM. MOM. You’re AWAKE. You WALKED ME. You have a WHOLE CUP OF COFFEE. FEED THE DAISY. FEED ME. YOU WILL NOT KNOW PEACE UNTIL I GET TO HOOVER SOME KIBBLE.” It’s a mostly nice change? We like the “revolving menu” so that we can switch between foods for someone who gets easily bored without having to worry about upset stomachs. Just wanted to let you know that I REALLY appreciate your tests, because it gives me a baseline to start from with new ideas!
You got it! Minimum two!! 🙂
I’m with you… 100% committed to rotational feeding. Newt actually still eats AvoDerm kibble, though she’s about to swap out to “i and love and you.” It kills me that there’s only one food Coop’s been able to tolerate, but Emmett gets to try them all, a job he loves dearly! 🙂
And I’m THRILLED to know that the trials help you and help with new ideas. That is super important to me, and I’m really grateful for the feedback! Also, I just adore Daisy. She cracks me up! 🙂
Also, I’ve had a mental note to go back and comment on her Gotcha Day post (bad habit of reading blogs on my phone means I suck at comments). Will do so, but wanted to say I really hope you guys are starting to feel more settled in. Moving is so hard. Promise to be back later tonight! 🙂
Any plants that can’t take care of themselves are unwelcome at my house. My yard is basically “Lord of the Flies” with more photosynthesis.
How exciting to go to Best Friends! Our church group is going back there in a couple weeks too!
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Wow! You’ve got a lot on your plate these days! Makes me tired just thinking about it. Lol. I’m looking forward to your grain-free post. I’ve been trying to transition Shadow to grain-free; but between her sensitive tummy and her finicky-ness, it has been a challenge. And Ducky will be an even bigger challenge because kibble aggravates her IBD-prone system. And sometimes her anxieties aggravate it even moreso.
I’m keeping busy just doing my Vet Assistant course and playing with the girls in between all the household chores. So far, though, I’m enjoying this course. I’m learning about things that up until a few years ago I simply left to our vet to take care of. Stuff that, as a teenager, made me go “ewwwww!” and now is fascinating or at least interesting.
So much great stuff going on! I can’t wait to read what your research turned up about grain free. Our crew is doing so well on it, I think it has to be all or mostly all good.
The crew is jealous about your pool! We plan to put in a pond at our new house, but probably won’t get to do it until next year. We will have our kiddie pool out when it warms up some, and there’s a nice pond about a mile from us that we hope to find a good spot on for swimming.
I’m SO excited for you about going to Best Friends!!! That is going to be so awesome. I hope you can get some photos of Angel’s Rest – I’m sure you’ll see that when you’re there and I bet it is even more beautiful in person than what I’ve seen online. Have a safe trip and enjoy!!
Pool and deck look great. Thanks for the share!
