The tiny whiskers that dot Newt’s chin shine as they twitch and catch light when she’s focused on something
Emmett’s yips, growls, and twitches as he sleeps because he may not be able to chase bunnies across the icy yard in his aging, arthritic body, but he sure as hell can–and catch ’em, too–in his dreams
Cooper snuggling right up against you, all knobs and points jamming into your appendix as he settles just so across your stomach, despite the entirely empty rest of the couch
A husband who takes and texts random pics of the herd… here’s Cooper in the living room, here’s Newt under the coffee table, here’s an attempt at a selfie with Emmett and Cooper… when I’m traveling because he knows how much I miss them
Planes that are on time and coworkers who are excited to have a week to work together
Starting the day with a less-than-perfect night’s sleep because Newt nosed and poked and pushed her way from the top of the covers down my legs to sleep the night nestled up against my feet, twitching and rolling around all night, keeping me up, but still… nestled up against my feet
Cell phones that take amazing pictures so whenever some kind soul says, “do you have any pictures of your pets?” HA! DO I?! Let me show you my roll of a million… here’s Emmett sleeping, here’s Cooper sleeping, here’s Newt sleeping next to Cooper, here’s Emmett sitting…
Knowing my three are safe and warm and cozy and cared for, even when I’m gone
(But, John, don’t forget: Cooper gets two scoops of coconut oil. Oh, and Emmett prefers his bed to be pushed up to the side of our bed, and sometimes it slips, so you have to scoot it back before you go to sleep. And Cooper wants the blanket spread on the couch when you watch TV, not in a lump on the back of the couch. And don’t forget to give Newt her afternoon puzzle. It’s past time. Did you forget? Did Newt get her puzzle?)
What are you grateful for? 🙂
Everyone is getting an extra scoop of coconut oil and I put more kibble than usual in Newt’s afternoon puzzle!
I think I may have to take this same approach on my next work trip. So much to be thankful for, but I always miss my ‘boys’ (that includes the husband!) Making a list may well help with that. Travel safely!
I always say my herd includes my husband, too! 🙂
The softest, fluffiest fur that feels like feathers right on top of her head when you kiss her between the ears.
A partner who understands that when it’s too quiet it’s time to check on whether we’ve been tp’d by our pet.
All the dogs that Daisy adores–there aren’t many, but they are beloved by our Queen Bee.
A great boarding and day care facility that I can trust 100%–even with an escape artist. It’s why I don’t want to move!
Oh, my goodness. That is so sweet. <3 And that last one? Priceless. Truly.
All of my herd of course, 3 cats, 3 dogs and my loving hubby who tolerates us all. I’m grateful I am able to provide for my pets, and of the total love they give back. YaYa, with her old, arthritic self still knows when it is time to eat, and won’t let me keep pushing the time back. Milah, with her soulful eyes and sweet soul, who can come out of a sound sleep and be on her feet to the words “where toy”?, and Justice, who will sleep no where but at the foot of my bed, or curled up next to me.
I love that, Kathy. So heartfelt. And I bet your husband does more than just “tolerate” you all 😀 (although some days I know John feels like that…)
This is so sweet. I sometimes need a reminder like this to appreciate the little things.
It’s so easy to get bogged down that the little things slip by, at least for me. It’s something I want to be cognizant of this year!
I was super annoyed that my little puppy was keeping me awake for the majority of last night, but this post really helped put things into perspective. I need to learn to really appreciate those moments, because they won’t always be there forever. Thank you very much, Maggie!
Best,
Dan
I’m grateful for retirement and not having to go away from home for work any more! I used to miss my girls – and the hubby – so much during those trips! Grateful for the love of my Shadow and Ducky and the hubby. Grateful for having had my departed girls in my life and now having two guardian angel doggies watching over me, over us, and over whoever needs POTP watching over.
Love this <3
Dog is my favorite animal. And I have two pet dogs. Because I love to have pets in my house and I really love to play with my pet dogs. Dogs are so faithful animals.
