Keeping Newt happy and healthy through the chaos #AvoDermNatural

11•12•15

No question: Newt’s been a bit ignored these past couple intensely-stressful weeks. We’ve been hyper-focused on the dogs, and we sometimes take it for granted that she’s as self-sufficient as she is. But, the truth is, since we lost Lucas and throughout our whole move, she’s been staying very close to us and very close to Emmett and Cooper.

The one thing I’ve focused on for her has been keeping her routine the same, which means her daily puzzle toy filled with the AvoDerm® Natural grain-free turkey formula.

Newt's six week food trial with AvoDerm Natural

This post is sponsored by AvoDerm® and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Avoderm Grain-Free but OhMyDog only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. AvoDerm is not responsible for the content of this article.

So, in my previous post about this trial I mentioned that Newt is a big eater. She’s a tiny cat–a bit over 8 pounds at her annual last month–but she wishes she were a humongous cat. She wants to eat everything. When we started this six-week trial, I knew that her opinion… well… it just wouldn’t count.

I’m all about natural foods to keep them healthy from the inside out. I’d much rather feed them well to give them a healthy foundation than wait for symptoms that need pills to treat. This food achieves that end. I’m all about avocado superfood goodness, of course, and I think grain-free and made in the USA are extra important. I’m ingredient-obsessed for us and for the herd, and after six weeks of getting AvoDerm in her puzzle, I can safely say that Newt is doing well on this food. She hasn’t chunked up. She’s shiny and soft, and she’s FULL of energy.

Here, the good girl sits ever-so-nicely for her afternoon puzzle. {Confession: She NEVER sits ever-so-nicely for her afternoon puzzle. She’s normally meowing and yelling at me to hurry up! But, I think John with the camera and the boys watching from behind a gate threw her off…}

Please ignore the boxes and sweat pants. Moving sucks.

She was also working on another puzzle–we mix them up every couple days to keep it interesting–while I tried to snap some pics, but the smarty pants quickly realized that she could just dive headfirst into the bag and help herself since I was distracted! (see the pic at the top of this post… sigh…)

Newt works on her puzzle with AvoDerm Natural

Newt loves the food, and I love the healthy, natural ingredients that go into it. If you’re interested in trying it out, you can click here to purchase or follow AvoDerm on Facebook to get regular updates.

All of this is extra important to me with all the chaos and stress and upheavals that have been going on around here. I want her immune system in tip-top shape, and I really believe a healthy food is the cornerstone to achieving that. I really think these guys all seem to perform and function better when they’re eating well (just like us!). Do you notice a connection between healthy, natural foods and the overall wellness of your pet?

Oh, my goodness! They make a huge array of puzzles for cats… and Newt’s a smarty pants! We have several that we rotate because she figures them out so quickly!

Loved reading about Newt. She is just adorable! Diving head first into the bag?! Haha! That is definitely something my Beamer would do! And that puzzle looks pretty interesting too.

Glad to know she’s not the only Pig Cat! 🙂 The red one, from KONG, is a good one because it has several things to do. She can mess with different components, but the spot that holds the kibble is really tiny. There are so many different ones out there, but I haven’t found The One yet!

That Newt is a smart one! I know when things get crazy around here, I worry that Sam gets neglected the most. She really is so self sufficient and loves to hide out…I wish she would make herself more visible.
But every morning and evening she has to get her thyroid meds and we also try to keep her on healthy food. She’s been doing great lately so we must be doing something right!

You do SO MUCH right! Sweet Sam! It’s funny… I think because Newt is the first cat either of us have ever had, we didn’t realize just how independent she would be. But I don’t think we realized either that she would much prefer to have a bit of time and attention and stimulation on her terms, not ours. We’re Cat People In Progress!

Absolutely. And less visits to the vet! But it takes a lot of work & research. In same cases, mixing and making up the food yourself, to ensure the ingredients.

Newt is indeed a smart one!

It sure does take work, doesn’t it? And every single body–human, cat, dog, etc.–is different, so what works for one might not work for another! Thank you for pointing that out!!

Newt is adorable, so glad she likes her AvoDerm. Miley is loving hers and I bet she’d like it even more if she had that cool puzzle!

We use quality food like this for Dexter in his enrichment games from Nina Ottosson at night – he loves it. Love that you shared a cat doing this puzzle, too!

Thanks!! I think since cats are so independent, it’s easy to forget that they need mental exercise, too!
