Siblings

02•04•15

For the past few days, I’ve altered my work habits immensely. I’ve had a cold and, being a huge baby about it, moved all my work under covers and blankets. And I’ve noticed something that is both sweet and peculiar: Among these siblings, they are nearly always paired up for a snuggle. Usually two of the dogs with the third off in a bed somewhere. Sometimes Newt gets in on the action. But they’re never in a big bundle! I started looking through old pics, and the pattern holds.

On occasion a threesome will pop up…

Em, Coop, Newt

But the rarest of pairings… almost never spotted in the wild…

Lucas and Newt

I wonder why this is? Those of you with multiples, do yours tend to bunch up together for big love fests? Go off singly? Or do you have iterations like these?

Well, I just have one dog but he snuggles up with me as if I’m another! When I used to have two dogs they would snuggle together if I wasn’t around but if in bed with me it was always Tidbit by my side and Scratch at my feet.

I hope someday I am able to have a bunch of dogs and cats just like you! It is so nice for them to have one another… when they all get along!

How precious, Ruth?! You are one lucky lady to be your dog’s snuggle buddy!!

And, yep, the getting along is key. We definitely have a number of spats around here, and maybe I should write a post about THAT for anyone who’s interested in multiples. Thanks for the inspiration!

It seems to vary. It used to be me and Stanley snuggled like crazy. Now we are often close but not snuggled.

Maybe it’s an aspect of maturity, too? Lucas and Emmett – long before Cooper – used to sleep side-by-side, walk side-by-side, basically they would’ve been holding hands if they had ’em. Now, though, they prefer to be near each other without necessarily touching. It does happen that they snuggle a bit like the pic above, but I think it’s more incidental than intentional?

I wonder is it’s sort of like when kids play together, 2 kids play great 3 kids and there’s always trouble. One is always left out so they argue an fight, but you’ve got 4 so have the 4 ever snuggled together? That would be a great photo

That is a PERFECT analogy, and I bet you’re absolutely right. There seems to be some flares of jealousy when bigger groups get together? The four of them end up in the same place very rarely, though it has happened! I will be diligent about snapping a pic the next time it does!!

Often Ziva loves to sleep touching Dante, but i’ve noticed sometimes she’ll wake up panting and then move off to her own space. I think she get’s too hot to snuggle sometimes. 🙂

YES!! I get that! I’m pretty sure that’s why Emmett prefers to sleep by himself in his dog bed because the few times he’s slept next to one of the others, he’s woken up panting. I think Ziva and Emmett have that in common!

The dogs both snuggle with me and will lie on either side of me or even near each other, but if Ray touches Julius even a bit, Julius gets up and moves. The cats never snuggle together nor do they snuggle with the dogs. Cooties, you know.

Yep. Dog cooties. Newt tells me they’re the worst kind of cooties! 😉
