Is your 2015 off to a wonderful start? I sure hope so!
It’s been quiet around here, which I appreciate. We rang in the new year snuggled on the couch, playing Wii, and enjoying a local beer.
The herd couldn’t believe we stayed up past midnight, and they spent all day yesterday sleeping to recuperate. That’s about how wild we get for NYE! (Every year when we watch the ball drop, I always think… NYC on NYE? My personal hell. I can’t imagine anything worse than that. Seriously. Nothing. Worse. Shudder.)
Anyway, as always, the new year sparks all sorts of ideas for changes and improvements. Personally, I’m not one for the whole “New Year, New You” stuff. I think you’re perfect just the way you are. Yes, YOU! We don’t need to be “new usses” (not a word, probably), but I do love to set goals that improve areas that could stand for a little sprucing. And that includes ways to improve things with and for the herd.
My Top 3 2015 Herd Goals are outlined below, but I’d LOVE to know what you plan to work on in the year ahead! Please do share in the comments!
Here goes:
- Get back in the routine of daily walks. We lost the habit in Louisiana and, shamefully, haven’t made the effort to start back up. This is Number One on the list because it’s super important to me.
- Restart agility with Cooper in the spring. His “reactive rover” trainer said she’d be happy to find a way to accommodate his stress level in a group class, so I can’t wait to get back into it. He LOVES agility.
- Nail down a supplement routine for all four fur-balls. More on this later…
Sparse, right? Looking at the year ahead, I know it’s going to be a busy one. Between John and I, one of us is scheduled for work travel nearly every month, and we already have half a dozen weddings to travel to. Plus FT work, and we both do PT work (me teaching, him editing studies for EPA). Plus life stuff. Plus the million little things that crop up. Whew!
So, I wanted to keep the goals SUPER simple and focused around overall wellness.
As for the rest of the time? My main 2015 objective for the herd is to have fun! That means hikes (for the dogs) and puzzle time (for all four). Lots and lots of games. A revamped backyard, coming this spring. Maybe a nosework class for Lukey, and I’m looking for a place to take Emmett swimming.
All fun things!
So, how about you? Are you a resolution person? Do you set goals for your pups? I’d love to hear what you’re working on!
Have a wonderful weekend!

I am SO with you on the NIGHTMARE of NYC on NYE!
Saw those HOARDS of people who couldn’t even turn around, and ALL I could think was, WHERE are the bathrooms? And, am I the ONLY one who sees THAT as a MAJOR detriment to having a good time? OMG. That scene looks like right out of Dante’s Inferno, to me. I don’t even do our state fair because of the crowds.
The ONLY thing that would make that NYC scene worse, would be if it was happening in the SUMMER! NOW you’re REALLY talking ‘circle of Hell’!
Just watching gives me the heebie-jeebies. LOL
Maggie
HAHA! Leslie, I never imagined it in summer, but OMG. I would die. Glad I’m not the only one!!!

Sounds like you’ve set some kind and simple goals for the herd. Perhaps your goal for 2016 will be to have fewer of your friends get married and to do more of your work travel by Skype. 🙂
Maggie
If only, Pamela! 🙂 But, you’re right: kind and simple! That’s my unofficial theme for the year. Happy New Year to you!

I think keeping it simple is a great idea, and I’m trying to do that too. For myself I want to get more organized (and I may be back reading some of your posts to help me with that, because I remember that you are super good at being organized!), so that will help the dogs out as well. If I plan my time and space better that will give me more time to do things with them…walks, training, fun stuff.

Oh and you reminded me too…more swimming this summer, and we also might do a nosework class for our Lukey!
Maggie
Ooooh!!! If we both end up in nosework, we’ll have to compare notes! I don’t think Lucas will be very good at it – he SUCKS at hide ‘n seek – but it seems like such a perfect way to get some mental and physical exercise!

That sounds like our kinda NY’s Eve – although we didn’t even stay up until midnight! Also sounds like you have a busy year ahead! Lots of travel and weddings! Those sound like good goals. It’s great the trainer can work with/around Cooper’s issues. As you know from stopping by Pooch Smooches, I’m also keeping it simple (and measurable) with the goals this year – finish book #4 and walk 10K steps/day!
