Back from nearly a week away at PetSafe! I have so much to tell you guys, including our day at the UT vet school (incredible), a visit to HGTV (so fun), and my response to a woman who spoke at length about the benefits of e-collars (horrifying, but I’m putting together a reply… complete with footnotes). The trip was, overall, really fabulous, and I got to meet some pet-savvy folks who were also so kind and a ton of fun. I was glad to get home, though, and Emmett and Lucas spent most of yesterday clinging to my legs, while Cooper chewed on one of the toys I brought him.
While I unpack and catch up on work/email/house stuff, a few quick updates:
- The UT vet school visit coincided with a newly-developing food sensitivity for Cooper. Apparently, he can no longer eat a protein that we relied on, so it’s back to the drawing board. I’m thinking of purchasing a phone consultation package with the veterinary nutritionist, so if that works out, I’ll share the process here!
- My office has been overtaken by Holiday 2014! You guys are going to love the gift guide and giveaways this year. Just sayin’.
- Tomorrow, Emmett goes back to Purdue for his next quarterly ultrasound. Think happy thoughts for my boy, pretty please. If Emmett gets the “all clear” at his appointment tomorrow, I’ve decided we’re going on another road trip! I have a trip to Atlanta at the end of the month for BarkWorld, so I figure… why not segue it into another fun adventure?! More details to come!
That’s it for now! This week is going to be a bit chaotic with all the catch-up (always the hardest part of going away…) but I’m excited to share it all with you as the week unfolds.
What were you up to this weekend? Any fabulous pet-friendly fun?
I love that clingy-leg picture. They love having their mommy home, don’t they. <3
On Saturday I was stoked to be able to attend a Pets For Life seminar from the HSUS in Detroit. Very motivating.
I’m SO FAR behind on blog reading with two trips back to back, but I marked your Pets for Life post as a must read!! Can’t wait to read how it went!
Ah we love that picture, I can tell they are sure glad you are home. good luck tomorrow.

I can’t wait to hear more about your trip! I’ve seen a few pictures from some of those that went and it seems like it was a great time 🙂
Sounds fun!! I just registered for the 2015 Blog Paws Conference in Nashville and I’m so excited! 🙂
Awesome, Erin!! See ya’ there!
The dogs are saying, “Dad doesn’t know how to do anything right around here. Thank God you are home!” 🙂
Wow, you are sure going to a lot of great places!
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Thinking of Emmett and sending my positive thoughts!
Sounds a lot of fun! But the dogs look’s a bit sad. 🙂
I was wondering, do they eat processed dog food or are they on natural feeding (meat, rice, etc.)?
They eat a combination of kibble + homecooked.
Ah, ok. I am not sure if this is correct information or not; but I read a book once on dog nutrition where it said that dog processed food was most likely the reason so many dogs have cancer today. That is why I chose to feed Naíy with homemade and raw food only. I have talked to vets who had mixed and different opinion on the matter. So, I had to make the choice based on what seemed more logical to me, even though not endorsed by every vet.
We opened the dog park we’ve been working on for a year! It’s beautiful and big and we had a whole day long event to celebrate and the dogs had a blast! Everyone made lots of friends and wore Halloween costumes, and splashed in the doggy pools that it was really too cold for! A great weekend! I was offered the chance to temporarily foster a puppy, but our apartment is too small and we just can’t make the time commitment. (Which is too bad, because we’re so in love with this dog, that I just KNOW that if we were living in a slightly bigger place, we would adopt him immediately. Which is the real reason we can’t foster him, because we are already in love with him!)
Congrats on the success of the park!! (Cooper was our foster failure… 😉 )
I’m very anxious to see your e-collar post and glad you’re touching on that as part of the PetSafe conference!
Oh, so very much to say. I’m struggling with the post, actually, because I’m trying to be concise but comprehensive… I’m shooting for Monday!
