Working from home with three dogs and a cat provides some challenges. For example, I’m convinced that the UPS man waits outside my house until the moment I get on the telephone – then he rings the doorbell, sending the boys into a frenzy. When I’m working on stories for pet publications, it’s okay. Mostly, the other people laugh. But when I’m working on, say, a corporate newsletter and speaking with a source overseas… well, they’re less amenable.
Which is why Mondays are my favorite and most productive days of the week!
Why?
Because Lucas and Cooper go to doggy daycare! 😀
On his way to work on Monday mornings, John drops Big and Little off at doggy daycare, and I have the entire day with Emmett and Newt. What that means is I have the entire day without any barking! Plus, it’s so nice to have that one-on-one time with Em. He does a lot of napping on his bed in my office while I’m working, but we always go on a nice walk that’s just his style. I’m not rushing to cram in multiple walks, so we’re free to meander. And meander he does! Emmett has to sniff every blade of grass, every tree, and every loose leaf blowing past. Our walks are a lot of this:
And this:
And this:
And this:
See that guy in the green shirt and the little dog WAY off in the distance ahead of us?
They lapped us. Twice.
We only go about a quarter of the distance I’d go with his brothers, but it takes just as long – and sometimes longer. Which is totally fine, because it’s the style of walk Emmett prefers these days. It’s peaceful.
Then, we usually come home, and I make lunch. He gets special privileges, like licking out the yogurt container when it’s empty.
And, Emmett’s not really one who likes being on his own, so with his brothers gone, he spends a lot more time sitting next to me while I type than he does when they’re home.
Oh, and Newt likes the P&Q time, too!
Such a peaceful day! And by the time the other two get home from doggy daycare, I’m walking out the door to go teach my class. While I love my boys and want to spend lots of quality time with them… I sure do love Mondays!

While I don’t work from home, I know what you mean. Julius goes to daycare M, W, F and I plan my week based on that. Knowing he will be wiped out in the evenings gives everyone a nice break and during the week I can sneak home for lunch and spend some time with Ray alone or come home and give them a break from the solitude.
Maggie
YES! Everyone needs a break now and then!! I wonder if Ray, like Emmett, appreciates the quiet, too!
Murphy & Stanley
We don’t like Mondays cuz our pawrents leave us alone and do their long run. We don’t like being left alone cuz Stanley always thinks they will never come back.

Awww! I get that, for sure. But I bet they always do come back! 🙂
Rebekah
I would love Mondays, too!

If you ever want to meet for coffee… 🙂

Sweet! Reminds me of my walks with our beagle, Bailey. It was not exercise – it was a sniff-fest!
Maggie
Absolutely!! It’s definitely not exercise – at all – when I walk with him, but he gets so much out of having the time to himself. I can exercise with the others and appreciate the moment with Em.

I don’t know which is worse; aging in a single dog walk or being dragged when the dog forgets that you are not a sled. Well, those are my walk experiences with Naíy.
Maggie
HAHA! Emmett used to be the one dragging me around. Watching him slow down is definitely hard, but it’s so lovely to enjoy the moment with him.

I can imagine that. 🙂

Hi Maggie!!
Guess what, Flea came to our house to spend the night and she brought a clicker for US that YOU sent …when she told Mom it from from Maggie at Oh MY Dog, Momma said you mean the blogger with Emmett, and Flea said yes, we were so happy that you knew who we are! It is a small world among us dogs isn’t it. So thank you again, …we do enjoy reading your blog.

YAY!! I’m so glad that worked out! When she told me she was going to see you, I was so excited. It IS such a small world, and thank you so much for being such a positive presence here!

As much as we love each and every one of them, sometimes it is nice to have a little break (not that I know from experience right now!). I breathe a sigh of relief when Luke finally decides to take a nap when I”m home!
The walks remind me of the ones I took with Kobi. It took me a while to get used to his slow pace, but once I did I just learned to enjoy it, and the fact that he was loving it too.
Maggie
And Luke is still SO YOUNG! That unending energy can get draining, for sure. Enjoy those naps! 🙂
