So, I have this issue.
From what I understand, this is pretty typical.
Newt wants to be in the middle of my workspace, no matter what I’m doing.
I love her company. I really do. My problem comes in when she settles in, and then decides that me doing my work is disturbing her! I reach over her to get to my binder or to type on my keyboard… and she bites me!
So, I had to devise a solution.
Now, I’m no crafty Jodi. But I had a pile of green felt leftover from another project, and I had a little box. I didn’t want to just stick a box on my desk, so I decided to cover it with the felt. (Plus, Newt nibbles on the cardboard edges of boxes, and I’m not sure that’s good for her.)
Were I craftier, it would’ve occurred to me to take in-process photos, but it’s really so simple that they’re not needed.
Basically, I cut the top flaps off the box, then wrapped it like a Christmas present and hot glued the edges down.
What did the princess think?
She liked it!
So, now when she gets in between me and my keyboard, I drop a little treat in her box. She climbs in, gobbles the treat, and then, since she’s already there… she curls up for a nap. Problem solved!
Simplest DIY no-sew cat bed ever!
Have you made any crafty projects for your cat? Any other solutions to kitty-related problems?

You do the same thing to me when I bother you while you’re working! Did you get the idea from dealing with Newt, or with me????

That’s my Tux! He doesn’t bite, but he has to “nurse” and knead my chest while I’m working so I always have to keep a long-sleeved shirt nearby so he doesn’t scratch my arms. Someone gave us a gift basket with food stuff in it for the holidays. I emptied it out and it’s next to my desk on a second desk where my printers reside. He sleeps in the basket. It’s velour-lined, black, and the outside is spray-painted silver, so it kinda matches his Tux-ness! When the printers start up, that is a whole other problem, though!

I’ll have to try that. My cat Taki thinks when I am typing at the keyboard, I am making a hammock for her pleasure.

Simba, Willy and I have epic battles when I try to work. Somehow that seems to be a call to try to lay on the keyboard and as many times as I guide them off, they come right back. But I wasn’t as creative as you. I stuffed and old, holey sweatshirt in a box and Simba loves it. Willy pretty much loves any box – no comforting cloth required. Sometimes, if the box doesn’t work, I gently pick them up and lay them next to Scout and then they all cuddle and leave me to work.
