Healthy New Year: Brain power

01•19•14

This week, to kick off our Healthy New Year, we’ve focused on nutrition and grooming, but to live a healthy life, our pets need physical and mental exercise, too!

OhMyDogBlog.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.

To keep our boys’ minds active and to sharpen those problem-solving skills, we love Nina Ottosson products. There is a huge range in her collection, all of which are designed to get our dogs thinking. We had the opportunity to test several different types, but one of the most innovative is the MixMax puzzle.

MixMax Puzzle

There are a couple different difficulty levels available. But, what makes this so unique is that you can combine the puzzles to make bigger, more complicated versions of the same game. Here’s how she describes it on her website, “Use one game by itself, or put together several games to create the ultimate BIG game at the level that your dog needs. You decide how difficult it will be, from easy to very advanced – there are endless possibilities!”

Despite many (MANY) attempts, Emmett is still at the easiest level. Cooper, though, really gets it, and combining the puzzles enables us to keep him thinking (instead of figuring out the one way it works and doing it over and over).

We swear by Nina Ottosson products because these things are built to last. I highly recommend getting one for a rainy (or snowy) day activity. Or, if you have a non-traditional pet, these are great for them, too! (Seriously, watch this video.)

Thanks to the generosity of Nina Ottosson, for one lucky reader, you can win a MixMax puzzle! (The giveaway has ended.)

We’ve been spending more time outside lately because the weather has been decent. But with another bitter cold spell due tomorrow we’re going to be spending more time playing with the game we won from you before….I need to get some photos! These games are great.

We so entered this – we love Nina Ottosson games and puzzles – we have a couple of them. Jack sometimes tried to use brute force on them, and Maggie is still a beginner too – but they are great. Hope we win 🙂

I have never used one, but would love to see how my dogs respond to them. They look very interesting.

Nina Ottosson’s puzzles are great. I always laugh a little at the instructions: “Teach your dog how to win the puzzle by…” Um, so not necessary with my smart guy.

I have to confess, though, Silas’s favorite “puzzle” is a well-taped up cardboard box with cookies and packing paper inside.

We adopted an adult Border Collie a few months ago. She has an injured paw and is on limited exercise; keeping her engaged right now is a challenge. Limited activity is seriously cramping her style. I believe one of Nina’s games would be perfect for her. Thanks for the chance to score one.

I have one that is very scent driven. He loves these!! My other two don’t see a sense of urgency to get the treats out 🙂
