This is one of those weeks that has gotten the best of me. I’m behind on, basically, everything! π
Instead of a coherent paragraph, here’s a list that summarizes my monkey brain and the week behind:
- Newt had her first annual! She sailed through it. Picture of health (minus a little tartar on her back teeth… we’re getting an additive for her water because, honestly, there’s no way we’re brushing this cat’s teeth) and good behavior. Afterward, she stayed in her crate and snuggled her teddy for 24 hours, refusing to eat dinner or breakfast, and just generally giving me a heart attack. She was fine. I think she was just upset.
- I had a wonderful lunch in New Orleans yesterday with Flea from Jones Natural Chews. She’s just lovely and knows the best places to eat! I love meeting blog friends in real life!
- Emmett had his follow-up test for his thyroid today, and – thank goodness – the medication brought his T4 levels back to normal. We’re going to keep him on the med and retest in a few months. This is all new to us. Have any of you dealt with thyroid issues?
- I’m frantically putting the finishing touches on the gift guide. If you’ve been following along on Facebook, you saw that it had 18 gift recommendations (and giveaways! including a particular item that might/maybe/could be pictured above) but somehow, in the last two days, I’ve added several more items! WHEW! This is going to be fun.
- Halloween was a total bust (thank goodness! ha!) because it started pouring 15 minutes after the official start. We had a total of three kids come by, so now we have 175 pieces of candy. Which I will eat. In the end, it was a relief because we didn’t have to have the poor dogs crazy stressed all night. How did your night end up?
- Lastly, don’t forget to change your clocks this weekend! I think for all us dog people, it’s sort of a nightmare, right? Or is it just my dogs who get utterly thrown off because their sense of time is dictated by when they have to eat and when they have to poo?
I’m supposed to be doing some client work right now, but… thinking I’m going to clean my desk and knock off early to head outside with my boys! Nothing like long dog walks to clear a foggy head, right?
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Your house sounds like my house, minus the pissed off cat. My Advent Calendar promo is going to be off the hook (but man is it a time suck). Why are all the best things so much work? Hang in there and suck back the caffeine. You can do this!
Oooh!! I can’t wait for your Advent Calendar! Incidentally, my beverage has been dictating my day… coffee til 5, wine til bed! π
Glad to hear Emmett is ok, and I’m sure Newt will forgive you eventually.:>)
I dressed Lucy in her butterfly costume to hand out candy. Since my front porch is so small, we stood out front and the kids loved seeing Lucy in her costume and she loved all of the attention.
Awww! I bet Lucy had as much fun as the kids! π
Hi, Maggie, I love that your cat snuggled with a stuffed animal. I need to get prolotherapy for my knees, which I hear is incredibly painful, and I plan to take a stuffed animal. π I traveled with my hamster to Arizona a few weeks ago, a 3-hour time difference. It took almost the entire month that we were out West for her to acclimateβand then we came home. It took her another 3 weeks to adjust to the time change and recover from travel. For what that’s worth. π Take care.
Emmy, Wishing you well for your therapy! It sounds like you definitely need a stuffed animal with you. Thanks for sharing your hamster’s experience… here’s hoping it doesn’t take these guys 3 weeks!
You must live in the Midwest if your Halloween was a bust. In central Indiana, the officials actually “canceled” it, and moved trick-or-treating to Friday night due to the severe weather. I look forward to your gift guide!
You know, Rebekah… We actually just moved from Indiana to Louisiana! My family is still on the northside, and I know my little nephew had his trick-or-treating rescheduled. Every time I read your blog, I miss Indy! π
Our cat Katie hated going to the vet. One time we brought her home and she ran all over the house like a crazed cat, pooped on the rug, and yes, practically gave me a heart attack! I was on the phone to the vet and they felt she was just stressed. Which turned out to be the case, because she was fine after a while.
That’s so fun that you got to meet Flea!
Ugh…clocks changing…it doesn’t matter which direction they go, it messes with our schedules. The dogs will no doubt have us up at 4am instead of 5 tomorrow!
Yeesh. Poor Katie… It’s so stressful when you don’t know what’s going on! I think next time with Newt, I’ll feel a little better if she’s behaving strangely, though I will still keep a close eye!
Good luck with your 4 am wake up. No fun!
Thank you for the post of Newt in her new Pet Cooler Carrier. It seems many people double it as a crate. I always tell people they can remove the door and snap on the two top snaps of front curtain (leaving the bottom unsnaped) to make it into a ‘doggie door’, or ‘kittty door’ in your case.
Do you mind if we re-post your blog?
Thanks again!
Oh, my goodness, Elizabeth. Please do re-post! Or, I’m happy to send you the pic if that’s better. I’m doing a whole write-up of Newt and this carrier for our holiday gift guide because she LOVES it. She HATED her old crate. Now, she crawls in this one to take naps throughout the day. It’s become her favorite cozy spot. Who would’ve ever thought?! Your idea about the “kitty door” is fantastic… I’m going to try that tonight!
Thank you SO much! I’m going to post this link now then. Since the pic is there we don’t need the pic right away , but if you’ll email seperately I’d like to reuse it when we post your Christmas mention…which I am THRILLED to hear you are planning to do for us. :o) Tell Newt we send him a big hug and thank you for his support.! t’s the animals who give the real testimonies huh?
So good to hear that things are settling down with Newt. All those months of hard work with squeeze cheese! Speaking of squeeze cheese, have you ever had a Twinkie wiener sandwich? They’re pretty gross.
That sounds pretty gross! Although, when you think about it, it’s probably all the same chemical compounds that make up squeeze cheese, just in a different order! π
