Last week, I got the tube out that was inhibiting my ability to be on my computer. Let me tell you… after three weeks of little internet usage, I was getting the shakes! While I attempt to return to normal, you will probably see John here a lot more often. However, of all the things I haven’t been able to do for the past month or so, this is what I’ve missed the most (well, second most, after walking the boys)! I swear this won’t turn into a cancer blog; if there are updates, I’ll put them at the bottom in little italics type or something. In the meantime:
- Did you watch the Super Bowl last night? It seemed like the majority of the ad campaigns featured dogs! My favorite was definitely the Bud Light “Here We Go” commercial. The dog was adorable – and SUCH a great actor! 🙂 Which one was your fave?
- And speaking of the Super Bowl… We have to talk about the Puppy Bowl! I watch this event every year, and it is so dang adorable. However, did anyone else think Aberdeen, the “star” of the game, was sort of a jerk? I know, I know. He’s a puppy. But still. The internet is abuzz today, complaining that the pup was robbed of the MVP award by little Fumble. But Fumble deserved it because he played nicely! Ah, the competitiveness! I was completely smitten with Lucie, though. I’m so happy that they decided to include so many bully pups this year!
- Because I’ve had so much downtime – with lots more to come – I’ve been building up my “to read” list. In my stack I have: Through a Dog’s Eyes, Follow My Lead: What Training My Dogs Taught Me about Life, Love, and Happiness, and The Dogs of War: The Courage, Love, and Loyalty of Military Working Dogs, along with a few non-dog books like Stylized: A Slightly Obsessive History of Strunk & White’s The Elements of Style, the one I’m reading now. If you’ve read something great recently, I’d love any recommendations, dog books or otherwise!
Have a happy Monday, everyone!
John
I’m with you. Aberdeen was kind of a jerk!
Tina
The Doritos commercial was my favorite! The man was well-trained…and very motivated by those Doritos 😉
Maggie
Yes!! Doritos did a great job with their commercials!

I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better. My husband was in the hospital for 8 days last week, and I know how much stress and exhaustion just that amount of time was, and also consuming of all our work time. My fav superbowl ad was the dieting dog VW one, perfect match for my book, lol! And in the puppybowl, I did notice how Aberdeen was quite possessive of that toy and very bitey. But still cute.
Through a Dog’s Eyes is a great book, as is her next one, In a Dog’s Heart. Happy reading!
Maggie
Thanks, Peggy! Baby steps in the right direction… I’m glad to hear your husband is doing better, too!
I actually forgot about the VW one, but you’re right. It was definitely one of the best commercials!
Angela
Maggie, I am so happy you are feeling better. I am sure all the love and attention from John and your boys have been key for your recovery. I hope we get to hear more from you here and in Twitter in the coming days.
The best commercials in the Super Bowl where without a doubt the ones with dogs. Advertisers spent so much money paying celebrities and supermodels to be in their commercials, but at the end of the day I think the dogs stole the show. Don’t they always? My favorite ones were VW and Doritos.
Maggie
Thank you, Angela!!
John and I were talking during the game about how much money companies spent on those commercials; yet, most of them came up with featuring a dog. We were joking that they probably spent millions on focus groups and marketing surveys just to realize people would like to see… dogs. 🙂
Laura
Gald to hear you are mend and I’m sure all the boys are thrilled about it 🙂 For books, Ken Foster’s Dogs I have met and his other one, Dogs who have found me are both really good if you haven’t read those yet. He founded The Sula Foundation, which promotes responsible pit bull ownership in New Orleans.
Maggie
Thanks, Laura! I’m going to check out the Ken Foster books from the library. I really appreciate the suggestion!!
Julie
So nice to see you back, I hope you continue to feel better! I loved the VW dieting dog ad – (loved the “fat suit”!)
I didn’t get to watch any of the puppy bowl 🙁 BOO!!! Next year I will have to set up an additional tv!
Maggie
Thanks, Julie! And by the way, someone told me that you can watch the Puppy Bowl (or at least the highlights) on the Animal Planet website if you feel like checking out the action!

Hi Maggie and John! We watched the puppy bowl at a friend’s house and my friend Downes sent me the kitty half time show in a text message. Love the puppy bowl. Go get better now!
