Sometimes, these monsters just amaze me. I’m not as patient with the dogs as Maggie is. I don’t always think everything that they do is cute. Frequently, I get annoyed with things that they do, even though they’re just being dogs. Granted, the last few weeks have been stressful for me (Maggie, too, I suppose…) and I’ve felt a little stretched at times. But, for all of the barking, the jumping, the messes, the pulling things out of the garbage, the refusal to allow a new toy to survive longer than 20 minutes, every day these guys make me realize just how special and unique dogs really are.
Not once have the jumped on Maggie since all of this has started. Not once have they gotten too pushy with her, or gone after her medications, or the other items associated with her recovery. In fact, they’ve been nothing but gentle with her. I’m amazed that they’re still terrified of the vacuum cleaner while simultaneously realizing that they need to be careful around Maggie.
Any instances like this where your dog seemed to just know?
To update everyone, we got the pathology results back from Maggie’s last surgery. That set of lymph nodes that were removed came back cancer-free, which means that even though the cancer started to spread it didn’t get very far. The past month has sucked, but “cancer-free” did a pretty good job of cheering everyone up.
Cheering up, yes! That is absolutely great news. I am so happy for you and Maggie you got some positive news. Sending good modjo that things continue in that direction.
Dogs DO pick up on these things. And they understand, like real friends do.
Hugs for Maggie from Kenzo & Viva.
Thanks for the good vibes! Spirits are definitely on the up and up around here. The boys have completely refined their “it’s time to nap!” skills over the past few weeks. Though they would probably prefer that Maggie find a patch of sunlight on the floor for her naps…
I don’t think its uncommon for dogs to read our emotions and know how to react. But I do think that you have extraordinary pups who are really amazing.
Thanks, Ann! I think Lucas and Emmett have figured things out quicker than Cooper, but he’s a fast learner. We can’t thank you enough for coming by and keeping them company!
Great news…must be a big relief! And yes…totally agree. Dogs can and do pickup on things in pretty amazing ways. Be it emotions, sickness or distress.
It was a huge relief and it really helped brighten things up around here. Before her surgeries, Maggie and I were both a little bummed and depressed, and these guys picked up on it right away. Nothing cheers you up quicker than a big thumping tail knocking over picture frames…
Fantastic news – oh how joyful! Dogs can wear you down sometimes – funny though how they turn around and make it all worth it. Your dogs are awesome! Here’s hoping that everything improves and gets easier for you both from here on out 🙂
What wonderful news! And I’m sure the dogs will pick up on that too.
I’ve been amazed at how gentle Honey can be with babies. When she meets new people she goes berserk with joy. But she knows babies are different and she becomes mild and patient very quickly.
Isn’t it wonderful when our dogs can surprise us? I’m sure with you taking on extra responsibilities around the house and Maggie recovering that you’re both pleased and thankful that the dogs have been so good.
Good to hear she is doing so well and cancer free 🙂 This passed weekend I went to the local pet expo with my dog and there was a tiny chihuahua (sp.?) with the little wheel chairs. M usually rambunctious 2 year old collie mix laid down right beside her and sniffed her gently then just sat there as if she knew this poor dog was paralyzed. If you knew my Marleigh, it doesnt matter the size of the other dog she will plow it over with her nose to smell it. I was just amazed at how gentle she was with this little paralyzed dog. I am always amazed at how dogs can just tell when they should be easy.
Great news!! I’m happy to hear her results came back with such good results. Our dogs also seem to know when we don’t feel good and how they need to be gentle with us and just settle in for a good cuddle and nap.
Glad that y’all had some good news!
With my recent injury Daisy has suddenly decided she is a couch dog and has started laying up there with me. Both girls seems to know something is up with me and are being super sweet.
Wonderful news! I am so happy to hear that!
When I’m not feeling well or I’m sad the dogs seem to know- Mickey sleeps with me and Kayloo stares at my face like she is trying to to figure out what is going on. When I got pregnant I knew before the test confirmed it because of how Kayloo was behaving… they really are fascinating creatures 🙂
