It seems like our weekends always end up revolving around the dogs. Is it the same for you?
I think because we have a little more time than we do during the week, we try to make up for not spending as much time with the boys as we would want during the week… so we try to jam as much fun as possible into those two, short days.
Typically we go for longer walks. We take them to the pet supply store. We schedule training classes and activities.
This weekend, because it was our wedding anniversary on Saturday, we went up to Indy. We left the boys with my parents and went out to a nice dinner. It was wonderful to feel like we could take our time and not have to rush home to let Coop out of his crate. In fact, they seem to prefer it at my parents’ house than at our house because my parents have a big yard with lots of stuff for them to explore.
Lucas spent half his Saturday making sure a poor squirrel didn’t come out of a tree.

Cooper, on the other hand, spent his day wagging at my mom and playing chase with her little dog.
We also took Cooper to the Indy Pet Expo, which was a great socialization experience for him. He did well a solid 80% of the time we were there! He even saw the wonderful woman who rescued him a year ago, which was fun.
In the end, we didn’t make it back in town for Cooper’s weekly Click-a-Trick class, which was a bummer, but the boys had a lot of fun with out-of-the-norm experiences and activities.
They came home so tired, in fact, that they’ve pretty much been asleep since we walked back in the door around 3:00 yesterday afternoon – with wake-up breaks to eat, of course.
Looking ahead, next weekend is going to be for the dogs, too! Emmett “reads” at the library; John will probably take Lucas to the dog walking club; Cooper has class on Sunday.
Are your weekends totally packed with dog activities, too? Or are we the only crazy ones who seem to choose playing, walking, and training over people-social activities?
By the way, did you know you can (finally – dang my technical ineptitude!) subscribe to receive OMD! via email or RSS?
Happy Anniversary!
Yes, these days our weekends tend to revolve around errands and getting the dogs as tired out as possible 🙂
Thanks, Shauna!
Ugh, errands. I feel like if I could take the boys on all my errands it would also accomplish tiring them out! If only more stores were pet friendly!
Yes, the weekends are for the dogs & cats. Glad to know we are not the only ones : )
You are most definitely not the only ones! 🙂
Actually, I’d be doing dog-centered activities with my weekdays too but somehow the boss doesn’t want to give me a paycheck for playing with Honey. 🙂
Congratulations on setting up your RSS feed and email subscriptions. You gotta enjoy meeting those tech challenges whenever you can.
I agree, Pamela! Work gets in the way! 🙂
And thanks re: the technical stuff. That is NOT my strong suit, so I always get excited when I figure something out – even if it’s a little thing!
Boy, can I ever relate! Every weekend we are involved with some sort of dog related activity. If it’s not agility, which it usually is, it’s going to the dog park or finding a new dog-friendly place to hike. This weekend we not only have our usual agility class on Saturday, but Sunday we also have a three hour long workshop out of town. And when we’re not in official classes, I am usually spending my time training. The few weekends of the year we are not involved with dog stuff feel like a special occasion. I barely know what to do with myself. My non-dog friends – not that I have many any more – probably think I’m insane.
Happy belated anniversary! I am glad you got a chance to get away!
Thanks, Kristine! It sounds like our weekends are pretty similar! 🙂 My non-dog friends – the few that I have, that is – don’t get it either. Have fun at the workshop! You’ll have to let us know how it goes!
Happy Anniversary to you! That’s funny that you and my pawrents have anniversaries that are so close together.
I Most Definitely try to do lots of stuff with my pawrents when they’re home for the weekend. I feels so sorry for them being all cooped up in their offices and not able to lay on the bed with us during the day. So we takes them for long walks and this last weekend, I even took them to a sporting good store so my dad could look at the toys he likes to play with. We even bought him a little something for being so good! And boy, him and mom were pooped by Sunday night. So we just laid on the couch and cuddled with them. You know what they say…a tired human is a good human!
Wiggles & Wags,
mayzie
Oh, Mayzie! You crack me up! I’m glad you’re so good to your parents on the weekend. I’m sure they deserve and appreciate it! 🙂
And, yes on the anniversaries! I saw that on your blog this afternoon. Hope your parents’ anniversary was fabulous!
No, our week-ends don’t involve nearly enough dog activities. There is so much to do around my neck of the woods, but the dog parks cost money. I need to push myself to take the pup to do more things.
You know, our dog parks have a fee, too, so we definitely don’t belong! Instead we do walks and trips to pet supply stores or arrange play dates with their doggy friends. I totally get the membership fee, but it’s sort of a bummer since it’s not in our budget!
Poor squirrel….lol
Ha!! I agree, Ally! Eventually I made Lucas go in the house for a little while in the hopes that the squirrel would make his escape…
