- Sometimes when life gets super busy, this blog is the first thing to go, and I realized that makes me sad! I miss chatting with you guys and hearing about what your dogs are up to! How is everybody??
- In trying to prepare Cooper for BlogPaws, I started my BlogPaws community profile with posts about our training progress. As you can see, we’ve made none. However, the first step is dining on the patio of a pet-friendly restaurant here in town. If you have a profile, let’s connect!
- Speaking of BlogPaws… Did you guys see the news? The conference was selected to hold the first press screening of the movie Spooky Buddies. The movie looks adorable, and the kids Emmett visits with talk endlessly about how much they love the whole Buddies series. This should be fun!
- At this year’s No Kill Conference, there was a session by the Animal Farm Foundation. While I wasn’t there (I wish! Maybe next year!) this recap on Turbocharging pit bull adoptions is AWESOME! I highly recommend the quick read because it’s full of great, useful, simple advice! I’m especially fond of their suggestions for naming pit bulls… it’s small, but it could make a huge difference in perception!
- Lucas went on another successful group dog walk on Saturday! YAY! Here’s a pic of the handsome guy getting sniffed BY A DOG:
- The wonderful folks over at Two Pitties in the City started a dog walking club, just like the one Lucas goes to! I highly recommend joining a similar group. Lucas was so not the dog we EVER would have though could do it, but all the other dog owners are super understanding and so supportive. Plus, it’s a great exercise and bonding time. If you have one in your area, join!
- Is it hot where you are? We’re now on the billionth day of a heat advisory. Maybe I’m exaggerating, but it doesn’t feel like it! It’s torture for me, and I can’t imagine how our poor dogs feel wearing a fur coat in triple-digit weather. So I got them a kiddie pool. 🙂 Pictures and video will follow… just as soon as we can coerce them into the thing!
- The kids at the mental health facility want Emmett to learn how to moonwalk. It’s basically scooting backwards in a bow. Emmett hates backwards anything. Wish us luck. I imagine the final trick to look sort of like this:
But without the chickens. And in a bow. So not really anything like that, but isn’t that video precious?! - We finally (FINALLY!) have some resolution on the Cooper situation. It’s a long story, which I’m post tomorrow, but I wanted to say thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your advice, suggestions, and kind words. It was so scary and so stressful that it meant so much to us! More on this to come.
- In the meantime, have you seen his graduation picture? Awww!
Sorry for all the typos, guys. My head’s just not in the game today!
Romeo would like to volunteer to dine with Cooper!
Cady comes to Feast and Stonecutters with us for breakfast–very dog friendly. If it ever cools down around here, we should all go together!
I really like the concept behind the naming suggestions. Hanna Montana is entirely too cutesy for my personal taste. (If I were in charge of naming, I might go for a Disneyfied theme, just classic Disney–Ariel, Belle, Aurora.) But it’s a hugely important point that the name gives subtle signals that affect people’s perceptions of the dog and “tough-sounding” names aren’t helpful.
@Kelly, Disney names are a great idea!! There are so many awesome ones that would resonate with families right away! And I totally agree: perception is reality, so any subtle cues that can make a big difference are worthwhile!
@Julie and @Jen, name the time/place, and we’ll be there! 🙂
Love the graduation picture! Thanks for the link to Turbocharging Pitbull Adoptions; great ideas.
When I saw your ten things post I figured you must have some resolution of Cooper’s issues or you wouldn’t have time to write so much. I’m glad to hear it and can’t wait to read more soon.
So it sounds like you’re thinking Cooper will be good for BlogPaws. So glad. Honey and I look forward to meeting you both.
