As I was singing to the boys this morning, it hit me: John and I do some pretty weird things with the dogs. Here are five of the weirder things we do around our dogs.
- Sing. I’ll admit: This one is mostly me, less John. I make up silly songs to sing to the boys as we go about our day. There’s the “good morning” song. Then there’s the “Lucas is a good dog” song. Then there’s the “Emmett is my best friend” song.
- Voices. We do a range of voices for the boys. Sometimes we talk as them, other times we just talk in strange voices to them. Mostly, they sound like South Park characters. (As an aside, I’m trying to find the perfect SP clips that represent each dog. This may be a future post…)
- Mess with their ears. This is involuntary. I just can’t help myself. Especially with Lucas’ ears.
- Tickle their feet. Have you ever oh-so-gently ticked the fur between their toes? If not, try it. Seriously. It’s hysterical.
- Smell them when they’re asleep. It can’t just be these three, but when they’re sound asleep they sort of smell like Fritos. I love the smell of sleeping pups.
We can’t be the only ones who do weird things like this, right?? What weird things do you do around your dog?
John
I notice more of a cheese popcorn smell when they’re asleep. Especially Emmett.

I mostly smell farts when the pack is asleep. I wish it were cheesy popcorn or fritos!

I sing to Jasmine also, in fact I usually talk to our dogs in a singing type of voice all the time. When I want her excited I use such a high voice it sometimes hurts my throat! LOL I don’t consider that weird at all. So there.
I love hugging and kissing her (and yes, she doesn’t mind that at all). JD is still too excitable for that sort of thing.

Haha! I’m guilty of all of the above! I sing to Riggins constantly… about anything! Waking up, going potty, eating… you name it, I have a song I sing to him about it! I’ve done it since he was a puppy so I’ve convinced myself that he loves it and would be sad if I stopped 🙂

That Frito smell… I know it well from my very first dog on my own. Great tough little welsh terrier – she tested me and trained me to have patience! Anyway – since then I have read about that distinctive odor — apparently it can be a sign of bacteria – especially feet. You may want to check with your vet and see about culturing that area and see if that can be contributing to the itchy parts. good luck.
