Today, we’re switching our cable, internet, and phone service provider. The tech is supposed to be here soon (I mean, the huge window of time they give starts soon), and I’m a little terrified that something is going to go wrong. Sigh. But we’ll be disconnected for a big part of the day. And, of course, we’re waiting for the vet to call with some results from Cooper’s blood test.
However, as soon as everything is back up and running, I plan on spending a lot more time exploring two new dog training discoveries:
- First, Dogmantics Dog Training has a collection of super helpful clicker training videos. There are a bunch that are useful (like dealing with barking and loose leash walking) and a bunch that are just plain fun (tricks!).
- Second, someone on Facebook suggested I check out Dr. Sophia Yin who has a behavior-related blog called The Art and Science of Animal Behavior. I haven’t spent much time on the site, but it looks like there are posts, videos, and suggested resources. I’m looking forward to poking around on there.
Any other great training sites or blogs you frequent? What are your favorite online resources for dog training advice and info?
With our new foster, we realized, we’re not as up to date on training as we’d thought. Though I love the photo above how even though they’re caught sleeping on the couch, they just lay there.
Even though I know I’m not supposed to let him get away with sleeping on the couch, I almost laugh every single time I catch him up there. When he finally does get down, he takes his sweet time, leaves his back legs up on the couch while his front feet are on the floor and gets a nice long stretch in. Sometimes that big goof is just too cute to stay mad at…
Oooo…those look like good websites. I’ll have to get mom to check them out!
And, er, I don’t get it. What’s wrong with that picture? It looks pawfectly reasonable to me.

Oh, I know. I can’t help but laugh… and snap a pic! 🙂
Hi Maggie,
I think my favorite dog training resource would be http://www.cagefreecanines.com/dog-training-los-angeles.asp. However, there are tons of other scattered all over the net. But let me tell you that no technique will ever really work unless you and I (the owners) stick to them religiously.
My dog goes crazy when the postman comes around. He becomes so excited that I fear he’ll bring on a heart attack and there is no stopping him when he is in this mode. Numerous trainers cautioned me to abort his behavior (misbehavior) before it gets to that point but I inevitably get busy with something else and am therefore not quick enough.
I suppose that I could confine him at my side until the postman has come and gone but I hate to do that to him. Would you have some wisdom to share?
Hanna, We struggle with that, too. What I’m trying to do is desensitize Lucas and Cooper. So for example, the mailman usually comes around 3:00. I try to position myself so that I can dole out treats to them for non-reactions. If I can’t be there to do so, I let them out or bring them into a different room with me because each time they get to react, it totally sets back our training. Hope that helps. Let me know how it’s going with you.
