Sadly, my goal for the month of March is just… to get through the month of March. While it’s been a stressful, chaotic month, there have been a number of gleaming silver linings.
One of which is holding Emmett’s leash for him while he hangs out at the public library twice a month. He listens intently when kids read to him. The kids love it. He loves it. Although, two years in, I think he really, truly believes the library is a place to take naps while children rub him!
Here was Emmett last Saturday listening intently (as in, not snoring) as a little girl read to him.
What a great picture. I bet the kids love it!
That’s so great, we always wanted to do that with Miss M. Though she has the same habit of complaining and lying down and looking bored. Do the kids get offended when Emmett falls asleep?
You know, the kids don’t seem to notice! Although, Emmett usually greets each new kid with a wag, and the parents usually ask me a handful of questions about him. But once the kid settles in with a book, Emmett settles right next to – or sometimes on top of – the kid and dozes off. I think the big thing for the kids is just seeing dogs! at the library!
Aw, that is soooo sweet! I bet the kids get excited about reading, knowing they are “reading to a dog.” So adorable.
I think it is so fantastic that you guys do that- dogs are awesome all around, but I love seeing and reading about them helping kids!
Thanks, Shauna! It’s really fun for me, too, even though the kids couldn’t care less about the person holding Emmett’s leash. It’s all about the dog!
What a wonderful thing to do 🙂 I wish our area had a program like this.
What a great way to be active in the community! I bet those kids love him!
Just re-read this post and we really miss you guys at the library!!! Also, Run for the Animals is coming up. Want to build a doggie kissing booth? 🙂
You know… the original kissing booth is dismantled and stored somewhere. I have no idea where, though. Hmm…. We really miss the library (and you guys!!!!)!
