Emmett is tired.
So is Lucas.
Emmett and Lucas have grown accustomed to a really specific nap schedule. There’s the after-breakfast nap, the after-lunchtime-walk nap, the pre-dinner nap, the post-dinner nap, and, of course, bedtime!
Cooper’s schedule is a little different.
He likes to play, play, play! And if the boys are asleep? If they’re not paying attention to him? The little doll jumps on their heads, bites on their ears, chews on their tails. And the two big boys lumber out of their beds and humor the little bugger for a while, before giving me THE LOOK that says, “I am done.”
At which point, I tag in and play with him for a while. That is, until he crashes.
For those of you who have fostered before, I’d love to hear your stories! How did your dogs do when the foster arrived and departed? Any tips or tricks to share? What’s the best piece of advice you can give to a new foster parent?

Haha! Emmett’s expression is totally the look Shiva gives me when she wants permission to sleep on the couch. Poor guy.
To answer your first question… Beyond cute. There isn’t even a dictionary word for it.

Ha! Who can see no to such a cute pup as Cooper, not even Lucas and Emmett can 🙂

I was a foster mom for a while through Italian Greyhound Rescue. I had dogs that my own dog really got along with well, dogs that she mildly tolerated, and dogs that she didn’t like AT ALL. But each of them stuck around until they were adopted, and it always seemed like my dog enjoyed the break between fosters, whether she liked the dog or not. I know this is silly, but it also seemed like my dog knew we were helping a needy dog, so she tended to keep her temper and just sort of roll her eyes instead of get really upset. I wouldn’t worry so much about your dogs when Cooper gets adopted, but you. I cried my eyes out each and every time one of ‘my’ dogs got adopted and my husband would always ask, “Are you sure you want to do this again?” And I would always say, “Yes, absolutely.” Because even though it’s heartbreaking to give them up, it’s also the most amazing feeling to know you are doing SO much good. Good luck and have fun!

I love the puppy crash. Too cute!
I haven’t fostered before, but I would like to at some point.

I love Emmet’s jutted lip. I guess we’re lucky Miss M is so bossy because she had our foster under her control and doing what she wanted. We actually had a problem where it was like a ‘girls slumber party each night’ and Wilma and Miss M kicked Mr B out of the bed and he would just have to hang out by himself. Wilma was adopted right before we went on vacation, so I think with the confusion they actually forgot they had another dog here. Seeing your photos makes me want to foster a puppy now.

Whew! Those ARE some tired-looking faces. Puppies sure are cute but gosh, they’re awfully exhausting. I’m glad my puppy days are behind me and that mom and dad have ZERO interest in adopting one. Please gives Emmett and Lucas my sympathies.

PeeS. Mom says Emmett’s tired face reminds her a LOT of my tired face.

Thanks for all the comments! Heather, I really appreciate the advice, and I’m so glad to hear what a positive experience it’s been for you! I think I’m going to follow the Two Pitties’ lead and plan a trip or something to distract them if/when Cooper gets adopted. Genius.

Adorable sleepy dogger pics. Puppies have so much energy and then crash so hard…so cute! We’ve never fostered but hope to in the future. You’re doing such a great thing!
