A couple weeks ago, I added a Community Question section to the blog. Originally I thought it could be once a month, but there was such a positive response, I figured every other week would be better! If you have a question you want me to toss out to this smart, vibrant, collaborative, animal-loving community, just shoot me an email!

Today’s question is inspired in part by the flurry of questions I’ve received on my last few dog food posts.
What do you feed your dogs?
This is such a hot topic with strong opinions on all sides. I’d love to hear what you feed your dogs – you don’t have to mention brand names if you’re not comfortable. Kibble? Home cooked? Raw? Something I haven’t even thought of?
I can’t wait to read all your sure-to-be-insightful answers! Hopefully we can inspire and educate each other on this incredibly important topic. In the meantime, have a great weekend!
My dogs eat raw. I’ve been a food nut for as long as I can remember.
My favorite job I ever had was teaching people how to read pet food labels at a small family owned feed store.
I’m loving this discussion about all the different types of foods. Kim, I have a lot of concerns about raw, too. It goes beyond my nutritional concerns, but the ecological impact as well. Also, as an interesting aside, Delta Society now precludes dogs fed raw diets from being therapy dogs due to transmission of things like salmonella and e. coli to unwell patients.
I feed my dogs Chicken soup for the dog kibble and they love it and I believe it is what helps keep them healthy. I have a problem with raw food from a nutritional and medical standpoint so I’m happy feeding them kibble with occasionally some wet food and people food.
Eagle Pack.
We feed our dogs a “close to raw” food called Force from The Honest Kitchen. It’s dehydrated (minimal processing) and packs and travels well in the RV!
Home-cooked diet based on Hilary’s Blend supplement.
My mom feeds us Taste of the Wild kibble and we also gets a scoop of canned green tripe on top! Mom thinks it’s way stinky but me and Brudder Ranger LUVS it! And it’s real good for us, too!

I’m going to have to check out some of these brands everyone is mentioning! Right now, I feed the boys Wellness Super5Mix for Large Breeds… and I supplement it with a couple scoops of grain-free canned meat, a couple scoops of veggies (green beans, steamed carrots, asparagus, etc.), and sometimes blueberries or other berry. I haven’t found a single food that I think covers all my bases. At least not yet! Keep the input coming!
