Sponsored Post: How to choose a dog kennel or bed

If you spend five minutes looking around your bedroom you are likely to see many of the little things that make it feel like your own; photos, your favourite books and your bed. Just like you, your dog is likely to have accumulated some favourite things in their time and will want a space to call their own. With this in mind, choosing a dog kennel or bed for your pooch shouldn’t just be a case of considering the practical, but also of creating a space that reflects their personality.

To dissuade your pet from jumping up on the sofa or even your bed, it’s important to give them a home that they find comfortable – that way they will automatically head there when they want to relax. If you opt to make that home outside in a kennel, comfort should not be any less of a priority. Choose a solid and waterproof dog kennel and place a warm blanket or bed inside, as well as a few familiar toys.

Judge the size of the kennel and bed on the size and age of your dog. Often, smaller or older dogs benefit from having low-sided padded beds that are easy to get in and out of. The preferred resting position of your pooch should also be taken into consideration. Larger-limbed canines have a tendency to spread out more when they lie down, but all dogs can develop individual sleeping quirks. This might mean they prefer curling up tight or stretching out. If your canine’s a curler, think about getting them a snuggly round bed with sides, and if your dog likes to lie flat and diagonal – get them a large pillow or padded matt so they can indulge their preference.

Keeping your pet’s space clean will help them to stay happy and healthy and it’s even more important if that bed is kept in the house. When choosing a fabric-covered bed or pillow, check if covers are removable, so that you can clean off hairs and dirt regularly. Many owners like to purchase plastic beds that they can wipe clean and then fill them with washable blankets to make them more appealing.

  1. My husband and I chose beds that will last long while remaining comfortable. Having 5 dogs, we need to chose something that works for all or most of them. We currently have the XL big shrimpy, its big enough that they all lay together. It’s also well made, durable and water resistant. The big bonus was that its not as expensive as it seems, given the its water proof, its quality and durability, and the how it doesn’t go flat in a matter of weeks, especially with dogs over 50 lbs.
