Separation Anxiety in dogs is very similar to children's as well. There's no easy solution but, there are several very effective training methods... and well, lots and lots of patience. We've been told she'll do her beagle-howl for a minute or two, but she always calms down. Kongs are great! The best is when we give it to her when we're home. She absolutely loves it.
